Our employment team provides tailored solutions on all issues. These include recruitment, flexible working, team moves, restrictive covenants, absences and performance issues. We can ensure exposure to litigation is significantly reduced. If litigation is inevitable, we will defend any claim and represent clients in the employment tribunal, the High Court and at mediation. Two members of the department are employment tribunal advocates.

We advise on the employment aspects of corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing, TUPE obligations, restructuring and redundancy programmes. We also draft and review contracts, policies and procedures to ensure that employers fulfil their statutory requirements and provide clarity and certainty for employees.

Fees

For many businesses, legal costs are a major factor in determining whether to seek legal advice. Businesses want to know what it will cost to, for example, defend an employment tribunal claim. Employees

We review contracts and advise on terms. We support employees on issues including bonus disputes, discrimination and bullying, disciplinary matters, dismissal, boardroom disputes and exit strategies including negotiating termination packages. We also advise on employment tribunal and High Court claims.

We advise on regulatory complaints, enquiries, investigations and disciplinary proceedings before professional bodies and tribunals including:

  • The Law Society
  • The General Medical Council and the British Medical Association
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants
  • The Financial Services Authority

Recent work that the team has been involved in includes:

  • Advising an international beauty consultancy on the enforcement of restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations against a former employee
  • Advising the UK arm of a South American software developer on the termination of a senior executive
  • Advising a senior executive of a global solutions provider on his employment rights and negotiating a severance package
  • Advising the CEO of a trade association and successfully negotiating a six figure package
